Plan a Manali and Kasol trip from Delhi: Volvo route, 6-day itinerary, real costs, best time, what to pack and TravelTech group trips with Delhi pickup.

Quick answer: A Manali and Kasol trip from Delhi needs 5 to 6 days, including two overnight Volvo journeys. Delhi to Manali is about 540 km (12 to 14 hours by bus), and Kasol is in Parvati Valley, about 75 km from Kullu. A budget group trip costs around ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 per person from Delhi, covering bus, stays, most meals and sightseeing. TravelTech's Himachal New Year special with Manali, Kasol and Lahaul has Delhi and Chandigarh pickups and starts from ₹8,999. Regular Manali–Kasol batches start from ₹6,999, with pickups from Delhi and Chandigarh and a Friday departure from Delhi.

Manali and Kasol together make the most popular mountain trip in north India, and for good reason. In one trip you get snow points, the Atal Tunnel, old wooden villages, riverside cafés, a hot spring at Manikaran and some of the best bonfire nights of your life. From Delhi, it is also one of the easiest Himalayan trips to pull off on a 5-day break. This guide covers the route, a day-wise plan, costs, the best time to go and why a group trip often works out better than planning it yourself.

How to reach Manali and Kasol from Delhi

By Volvo bus: This is the most popular option. Overnight Volvos leave Delhi in the evening from Majnu Ka Tilla, Kashmere Gate and other points, and reach Manali the next morning. For Kasol, buses drop you at Bhuntar, from where Kasol is about an hour away.

By tempo traveller: Group trips often use a tempo traveller for the full circuit. It is more comfortable and lets the group stop at viewpoints on the way.

By flight: The nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu), but flights are limited and weather-dependent. Most people fly to Chandigarh and drive the rest of the way, which takes about 8 to 9 hours.

By train: The nearest useful railheads are Chandigarh and Kalka. From there, the rest of the journey is by road.

Best 6-day Manali Kasol itinerary from Delhi

Day 0: Overnight Volvo from Delhi

Board the evening Volvo from Delhi. Carry a light jacket and a neck pillow; buses can get cold at night as you climb into the hills. Dinner is usually at a highway dhaba before the bus heads up. Overnight on the bus.

Day 1: Arrive in Manali, Hadimba Temple and Old Manali

Reach Manali in the morning, check in, freshen up and have breakfast. In the afternoon, visit Hadimba Devi Temple in its cedar forest, the Manu Temple and Vashisht's hot springs. Spend the evening in Old Manali's cafés with live music. Dinner and overnight in Manali.

Day 2: Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel

After breakfast, head to Solang Valley for paragliding, ropeway rides, snow activities in winter or ATV rides. Continue through the Atal Tunnel towards Sissu in Lahaul, where you often find snow even when Manali has none. The drive through the tunnel alone is worth the day. Return to Manali for a bonfire night. Breakfast, dinner and overnight in Manali.

Day 3: Manali to Kasol via Kullu

Drive to Kasol after breakfast, stopping at the Kullu shawl factories and the river-rafting points on the Beas if the season allows. Reach Kasol by afternoon and walk through the village, the Israeli-style cafés and the riverside paths. Evening by the Parvati river. Dinner and overnight at a riverside camp or hotel in Kasol.

Day 4: Manikaran, Chalal and Tosh or Kheerganga

Walk the easy forest trail to Chalal village, then visit Manikaran Sahib, where the gurudwara's langar is cooked using natural hot springs. Adventure lovers can trek to Kheerganga (about 12 km from Barshaini) on a longer trip, while others can visit Tosh village for its views. Return to Kasol for a final bonfire. Breakfast, dinner and overnight in Kasol.

Day 5: Kasol to Delhi by overnight Volvo

Spend the morning at a café, buy souvenirs and board the evening bus from Bhuntar back to Delhi. Overnight on the bus, reaching Delhi the next morning.

Manali or Kasol: which to give more time?

Manali is about adventure, snow and sightseeing. Kasol is about slowing down: riverside cafés, forest walks, easy treks and long conversations by the bonfire. If your group loves activities, give Manali three nights. If your group loves chilling, give Kasol two nights and add Tosh or Kheerganga. Our Manali travel guide and Kasol travel guide go deeper into each place.

Food you must try on this trip

Himachali food is simple, warm and perfect after a cold day outdoors. Try siddu, a steamed wheat bun stuffed with walnuts or poppy seeds, served with ghee. Trout fish is a local favourite in Manali and around the Beas. Thukpa, momos and butter tea are everywhere in the cafés. In Parvati Valley, the cafés serve shakshuka, falafel and wood-fired pizza, a legacy of the many Israeli travellers who visit. And on a cold morning, nothing beats a plate of hot parathas with a cup of masala chai at a roadside dhaba with a mountain view.

Joining from Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad

If you live in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or South India, plan to reach Delhi a day before departure, on Thursday, by train or flight. The group leaves Delhi on Friday. Book a refundable flight or keep a few hours of buffer, because the Volvo leaves on time. On the way back, avoid booking an early morning flight from Delhi on the day the bus arrives; road delays are common.

What to pack for Manali and Kasol

  • Warm jacket, thermals, cap and gloves (essential from October to March).

  • Comfortable shoes with good grip for walks and snow points.

  • Sunglasses and sunscreen, because mountain sun is strong.

  • A neck pillow and a light blanket or shawl for the bus.

  • Power bank, since charging points on buses are unreliable.

  • ID card, which hotels and permit checks ask for.

  • Basic medicines for motion sickness and headaches.

Tips for a smooth trip from Delhi

  • Book Volvos early for weekends and long weekends; they fill fast.

  • Expect traffic delays near Manali in peak season and after snowfall.

  • Carry cash for small cafés and villages near Kasol, where networks can be weak.

  • Respect local rules in Parvati Valley; avoid littering and loud music near villages.

  • Check road status for the Atal Tunnel and Sissu in winter.
